Add Optional Cotton Bags to Your Order!

100% USA made cotton muslin drawstring bags that are ideal for saving you money and the environment.

100% Made In USA from Virgin US Cotton.

Did You Know?  👉  Many bags are imported and might not even be 100% cotton. Foreign textiles are often sprayed with chemicals and pesticides upon coming into the country to limit disease and infestation.

The finished dimensions are about 1/4 smaller in either direction and will vary from time to time.   This is due to natural properties of cotton and the manufacturing process.

3 Ways to Reduce Waste with Sew Grown Muslin Bags

  1. Use a muslin bag for produce instead of plastic bags at the grocery store. If you purchase a lot of fresh produce, you probably use a lot of disposable plastic bags. Muslin bags are a breathable, reusable alternative to take with you to the store. Once you bring your produce home, you can put the bags directly in the fridge to make your food last even longer. (see below for details about this).

  2. You can pop popcorn in a muslin bag. Not only is this good for the environment, it’s better for your health and your wallet. Buying unpopped kernels in bulk is much more affordable than individually wrapped packs. And with unpopped kernels, you can customize the toppings and cut down drastically on excess sodium and other unhealthy additions. To use a Sew Grown bag to make popcorn, be sure to leave enough room in a large bag and do not overfill it with kernels. You can use about a quarter of a cup and microwave it for two minutes. Listen while the popcorn is in the microwave, and just like with packaged popcorn, you can take the bag out once the popping slows down. We recommend using the 6 x 8 bag.

  3. Use Sew Grown bags instead of plastic zip-up bags. Our bags come in a variety of sizes, making them perfect to use instead of plastic zip up bags. For dry foods like chips, pretzels, and even raw vegetables, use a muslin bag instead of plastic. You can still conveniently place them in a lunch bag, pantry or fridge. You can wash your Sew Grown bags as well, so buying a few sets in several sizes would last you a fairly long time.

Three Tips to Keep Your Produce Fresh for Longer

1. Store produce in bags made of a breathable fabric.

Many fruits and vegetables should be contained in some way, but in a lot of cases should not be completely sealed. Using a Sew Grown Cotton bag is the perfect happy medium. The bags protect your food while still allowing the right amount of airflow. Our bags work great for storing produce because they help your fridge stay tidy while maintaining the quality of your food. Bonus: our bags are reusable, and if you bring our bags right to the store to pick your produce, you can save yourself a little time and reduce waste.

2. Take advantage of built-in crisper drawers.

Most refrigerators have crisper drawers, but they can be a little confusing to use. In order for a crisper to work properly, you need make sure the environment is either high humidity or low humidity depending on the fruit or vegetable. Dampening a cloth bag you’re using to store your produce adds the right amount of moisture to crisper bins for nutrient dense vegetables like leafy greens, broccoli, cucumber, and more. It’s good to leave the bag dry for fruits (apples, peaches, pears, etc.) to keep the environment at a low humidity.

3. Don’t be afraid to freeze anything that might not get used.

Sometimes, it can be hard to tell how much produce you’re going to need for a particular recipe. Other times, you may have ended up going out to eat more than expected. Regardless, it’s okay to end up with more produce than you needed. Most fruits and vegetables freeze well. One of our favorite time savers is to chop up a variety of extra vegetables and freeze them together in one bag. It’s easy to defrost and incorporate them into a pot of soup or a pasta dish for an easy healthy meal.

We hope these tips are helpful and thank you for supporting Sew Grown!
